About Educating Yorkshire

Welcome to Educating Yorkshire, a warm and humorous exploration of what it's like to grow up or work in a secondary school in the heart of a diverse northern community. The eight-part series was filmed at Thornhill Community Academy near Dewsbury, where half of the pupils come from the local Asian communities.

About Educating Yorkshire

The series captures every detail of life in the school - from playground hijinks and inspirational lessons, to life-changing events. It follows the work of headteacher Jonny Mitchell - himself born and raised in Dewsbury - to better the chances for all of his students and build on successive years of improving exam results.

Helped by a stellar team of staff, Jonny is determined that every child will leave his school having achieved their full potential - be that a full complement of A*s or managing those vital C grades in English and Maths. Jonny and his team are also keen to ensure that the kids graduate as model citizens who better understand one another.

Focusing on the GCSE students and staff who teach them, Educating Yorkshire documents the most important years in their education. Told with warmth and humour, this series explores the universally recognisable themes of teenage life and those all-important pupil-teacher relationships, which lie at the heart of everyone's formative years.
