    Four inspiring women of W

On International Women's Day we spoke to four inspiring women of W to find out who inspires them, who influenced their career and who they aspire to be more like.

  • Sarah Yeoman - W Senior Brand Manager

Sarah Yeoman - W Senior Brand Manager

Career bio: I've worked in the TV industry for almost 8 years, all of them at UKTV. These have seen me work across several genres, rebranding Gold & most recently launching the brand new channel W.

Who has significantly influenced you & your career? When I first started at UKTV, Carol Dodds the EA of the CEO pushed me to use my creativity & follow my career dreams to move from a PA to a Marketing role. She supported me in my journey & I have her to thank for where I am today.

Who inspires you? Shonda Rhimes. Who wouldn't be inspired by a woman who's written so many successful shows ? Greys, Scandal, How to Get Away with Murder ? she even has a night of TV scheduled in her honour, the TGIT (Thank God It's Thursday) line up. She seems to have great control over her work/life balance, living the professional & personal life she desires ? which is surely something we all aspire to? Her production company ShondaLand, which she eponymously named, proves she's not afraid to be confident & proud of her amazing achievements (Yeoman Island is in the making).

Guilty pleasure show: I'll be totally honest: Keeping up with the Kardashians. Sorry.

Box-set bingeing: The Good Wife & The Great Interior Design Challenge

  • Hilary Rosen ? Deputy Director Commissioning

Hilary Rosen ? Deputy Director Commissioning

Career bio: I started my TV career in a very serious place ? a researcher on Panorama. After ten years of hard journalistic slog I broke free & ever since then have been trying to have as much fun as possible. At UKTV I get to work with presenters, comedians, writers, actors & stars of reality shows like Nev, Hayley & Johnny from the Call Centre. It's a pretty eclectic mix & never dull.

Who has significantly influenced you & your career? I started out in the dark days of TV; when all the pitifully few senior women in the industry were routinely described as ?mad?. Francesca Kirby Green was one of only two female producers on Panorama & she was my guiding light. Her forthright advice included buying a proper coat so I didn't freeze on shoots & not to forget to have children. Both were invaluable.

Who inspires you? While making a film about Cherie Blair in 2007, I got to meet Hillary Clinton. I was blown away by her intellect & the speed at which she walked the Senate corridors.

    Guilty pleasure show: Masterchef USA

Box-set bingeing: House of Cards season three. No contest.

  • Lonny McCorry ? W Scheduler

    Lonny McCorry ? W Scheduler

Career bio: I started in the TV industry in 2010 with a graduate position at Red Bee Media, before moving to the scheduling teams at UKTV in 2012. I worked across Eden, Drama & Alibi before becoming a part of the evolution of Watch to fabulous W.

Who has significantly influenced you & your career? I?m going to have to say my Mum. She has risen to the top of her game, which in the advertising industry is no mean feat. She makes me feel that getting there is possible, however far away it might seem.

Who inspires you? Caitlin Moran & Fearne Cotton ? both seem to have mastered strong, respected careers as well as very happy home lives.

Guilty pleasure show: The People vs. O.J. Simpson ? it's pretty cheesy but I love it!

    Box-set bingeing: Parks and Recreation & I?m re-watching Teachers.

  • Justine Bower ? Head of Consumer Communications

Justine Bower ? Head of Consumer Communications

Career bio: After graduating law school & working at a firm in Lincoln's Inn, the world of PR beckoned. Specialising in technology, I worked with emerging tech firms coming out of Silicon Valley & Israel. When the dotcom bubble burst I moved to Sky News, covering comms around the Iraq war & London bombings. There was a stint at CNN managing international comms, then onto Channel 4. Two years ago I moved to UKTV where I work across all the television I love: entertainment, comedy, documentaries & on demand.

Who has significantly influenced you & your career? My grandmother was one of the first conductresses on the London buses ? she joined as part of the war effort ? and her framed news clipping rooted in me that people's roles should not be defined by gender. She may not have changed the world, but for me it was hugely influential. Then my career influencers include Kay Burley the Sky News anchor for being funny, warm, and welcoming me into the newsroom. My boss at Sky News, Stella Tooth, for giving me journalistic insight, my bosses at CNN Claudia Coles and Susanna Flood, who were both terrific role models in totally different ways. CNN correspondent Christina Amanpour for being brave, fiercely intelligent and incredibly kind, the arts commissioners at Channel 4 ? Jan Younghusband and Tabitha Jackson ? for instilling a life-long love and appreciation for the arts and finally, my team, colleagues and boss at UKTV (too many to name check individually) ? whom are feisty, funny and supportive.

Who inspires you? Documentary filmmaker Penny Woolcock. She has an amazing story & works with gangs trying to break the cycles of violence in which young men grow up. She taught me to see the positive in people & that everyone deserves a second chance in life. They shouldn't be judged on poor decisions made because they had no other choice.

Guilty pleasure show: I've probably watched an unhealthy amount of America's Next Top Model

Box-set bingeing: How To Get Away With Murder season two
