With a string of best-selling cookbooks and hit TV series to her name, Kylie Kwong is a welcome addition to the latest series of Masterchef Australia.
Kylie kicked off her professional cooking career back in the mid-90s with a four-year stint as head chef of a modern Asian noddle bar in Sydney. But it was to be her next job running the kitchens at bills and bills2 that would make her dream of one day opening her own restaurant.
A trip to China in 1999 proved life-changing when a visit to a Shanghai-style tea house gave Kylie the inspiration she needed to start her own business.
Her Billy Kwong restaurant, opened in partnership with Bill Granger, launched in 2000 and Kylie still loves everything about this restaurant, which she is now the sole owner of.
Following her success in the restaurant business, Kylie was approached about starring in her own TV series in 2002. Kylie Kwong: Heart and Soul traced the chef's life and the roots of her passion for food.
The response to the series was so good that Kylie followed it up with Simple Chinese Cooking, a book and TV series, that attempted to demystify one of the world's most popular cuisines.
Further TV series and books followed including My China: A Feast For All the Senses and It Tastes Better, telling the story of Kylie's food heroes.
For her latest adventure Kylie is taking on the role of mentor and guest judge on Masterchef Australia.
