Rylan Clark-Neal profile

Rylan Clark-Neal has so many strings to his bow he could probably form his own small orchestra. Find out more about the actor, model, presenter and singer who’s become a firm fixture on our tellies.

Rylan Clark-Neal

Ross Richard Clark - he adopted the more memorable stage name 'Rylan' in his teens - was born in East London in 1988 and grew up in Essex. He first found fame in the ninth series of The X Factor in 2012, finishing in fifth place. Admittedly not the strongest singer in the world, and something of a thorn in the side of Gary Barlow who considered him a 'joke act', the sheer force of Rylan's personality shone through and impressed the other judges and the voting public.

Rylan had picked up experience as a musical entertainer from performing in tribute acts in Ibiza as well as performing as a part of a Spanish boyband, 4Bidden. One of the cover bands was, ironically, his X Factor nemesis's very own group, Take That (!)

Until music came calling, it looked like Rylan was actually set to be a model. He'd been doing modelling work since he was 16 and, in 2011, he appeared on the Sky Living show, Signed by Katie Price, where thirteen hopefuls competed for a management contract with the glamour model's own company. So near and yet so far, as Rylan came in second place.

Capitalising on his success from The X Factor, though, the following year Rylan appeared on Celebrity Big Brother 11 along with the likes of Gillian Taylforth and Frankie Dettori and came... first! It was a particularly sweet victory as - amazingly enough - Rylan had successfully applied for Big Brother 8 in 2007 and was booted from the line-up at the last minute. Soon after his Big Brother triumph, he became the new host for its spin-off show, Big Brother's Bit on The Side, and he's now well known for presenting shows like This Morning, The Xtra Factor and Babushka.

Not just a pretty face, Rylan also proved he's pretty handy in the kitchen, reaching the final of BBC One's Celebrity MasterChef in 2015 and impressing judges Gregg Wallace and John Torode with a string of tasty dishes including a gourmet recreation of a McDonald's happy meal.

And now he's the presenter of our very own quiz show with a twist, The Wave. There's probably quite a few luxurious locations Rylan has hosted from in his career so far - we're not saying a sun-soaked beach bar in Portugal is the best one yet, but it's got to be pretty high up the list!
